It is located in the original Naval Dockyard created 1743 in Simons Town. 1810 the Royal Navy moved its headquarters from Cape Town here, thus the museum is part of the South African Navy and is besides civilian volunteers also staffed by Naval Personnel. The builiding served many purposes, e.g.: as magazine and storehouse for ships, masthouse, sail loft, St. George´s Church, etc.
In the museum you will find a life-size ship´s bridge and Submarine´s Operation and Control Room, Sea Mines, Torpedoes, the South African Training Ship "General Botha" collection and many more.
